Dry Spell Series: 3 Things to Do When You Don’t Feel Like It

Dear readers, now that you know what the signs of spiritual dryness are (read: 3 SURE SHOT SIGNS OF SPIRITUAL DRYNESS) and how to thwart it (read: 3 STEPS TO GET BACK RIGHT), I am going to share with you the 3 things you can do when you get a hint of feeling detached from God. Consider this as a bonus blogpost for the Dry Spell Series as I remember telling you that this was initially a 2-part series.

Jude 1:3 says, we must “contend for our faith”. So, it is necessary that we constantly be vigilant and make the necessary adjustments in our stand in Christ.

Think of it as a car running on gas. We keep a check if we have enough fuel before setting out on a trip or else we visit the nearest gas station to ensure we replenish the fuel before commuting.

Similarly, here are 3 things to do to keep your faith full tank in Christ!

#1 Rewind Yourself

Every time you encounter falling away from God, learn to rewind the events that have occurred so far. There is always a trigger point that leads to spiritual dryness. Self-examination helps us introspect on our thoughts and deeds. Keep a journal if you like to record the events that have happened in your life – this will keep you updated on your thought processes and behavior and help you make amends through repentance and prayer.

#2 Don’t be Complacent

We often don’t realize this but complacency is a big hindrance to spiritual growth and is the greatest enemy of the present church.

Yielding to temptation and being passive are the smoking gun of being a complacent christian. Don’t let it get the best of you! Read my previous post on how you can learn to be proactive: SWITCH ON YOUR BEAST MODE!

#3 Set a Routine

Laziness is a trait that God despises. The Book of Proverbs clearly states,

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and [hath] nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

Proverbs 13:4 (KJV)

If you’re the type of person who can become disconnected with your spiritual life too quickly, you need to set a routine that can help you manage that. Routines are a great way to force us in to do something even when we don’t feel like it or when we are feeling lazy.

Remember, contend for your faith !

Hope this helps. If you’d like to add to these points feel free in the comments section below.

God bless!
